You are only able to attach one document in the Attachments section of the Discussion Board thread.

However, you can attach as many documents as you want in the text section of the thread by using the "Insert File" button on line 3 of the command bar. 

1. Click on Show More (down pointing arrows) on the Message box command bar.

2. Click on the paperclip to attach more files.
